FOUNDATIONS for Christian Living

foundations

FOUNDATIONS is our three-year equipping program for the development of Christian faith and practice at Redeemer Church. It takes place on Sunday mornings during Discipleship Hour (a.k.a. Sunday School), 9:30-10:30 a.m.

The course guide and curriculum for FOUNDATIONS are strategically designed with coherence and cohesion in mind. The aim is to foster doctrinal and spiritual development as the student follows the course guide through the curriculum.

The preferred method of study; therefore, is in keeping to the course guide above. In the case that someone joins FOUNDATIONS in the midst of a class, it is suggested that they follow the progression for the year taking each of the four classes before moving to the next year.

The Christian Life

The following phrases do not completely capture the thrust of the development of the study cycle, nor define it perfectly, but they may be helpful to tap into the flow.

Year 1 | Reading the Word

Year 2 | Teaching the Word

Year 3 | Living the Word

The third year is somewhat of an application of the previous two years with The Christian Life as the capstone course that seeks to draw from the wealth of the previous courses making robust application to the Christian life.  Of course, one should not wait until the third year to live the Word.

Each class is eight weeks in duration.  There are two eight-week sessions per semester--between August and December in the Fall, and January and May in the Spring.  FOUNDATIONS begins with Christianity Explored:  The Gospel of JESUS CHRIST from the Gospel of Mark.  Next, the student will move to Studying Scripture: Hermeneutics for the Church and so on.

In the first year, only one course will be offered per eight-week session.  During the second year, two classes are taught per session, and in the third, three.  Following the third year, all courses are continually taught in their allotted session.
